Welcome to MormonVoices. Our volunteers respond to public discussions and comments from public figures that misrepresent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We encourage and direct Mormons to get involved in online discussions and thereby help shape the public understanding and perceptions of the Church. Please join your voice with ours, and become a member of MormonVoices.

MormonVoices is an independent organization that is supportive of, but not
controlled by or affiliated with, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Book of Mormon Musical

The Book of Mormon Musical, the winner of 9 Tony awards, is often funny. The participants have obviously dedicated their time to make a professional production. Humor is an important part of life, and we applaud the fact that humor about Mormonism shows that Mormonism is a recognized part of our society. However, we must be clear that the Book of Mormon Musical does not accurately reflect our beliefs, and is often flat-out wrong in its depiction of our beliefs and our history.

Just for one example, The song “Just Believe” is expertly sung and has a very catchy tune, but the idea of “just believing” goes very much against our beliefs. In church and in our scriptures, we don’t just talk about “just believing,” we talk about study and learning. (D&C 88:118) That is why Mormons have a higher level of education than the general US population. (see Education, Scholarship, and Mormonism).
